Game Play

My child is having a hard time navigating JumpStart World using the arrow keys and sometimes gets lost.

We recognize that for kids of this age range, especially Kindergartners, it may be their first experience in a ”real-time 3D game” that uses the arrow keys. Practice makes perfect and if they get too frustrated, remember they can use the map to get around more quickly. With some persistence, they’ll develop the hand-eye co-ordination and spatial-reasoning skills to move through the World without getting frustrated.

We can’t find a certain building, character or location.

Use the map to find your way – there are rollover audios that help identify each location. The map is in the tool bar at the bottom of the screen. You can access it at any time.

The game keeps telling us ”we here at Camp JumpStart have some things to do. Exit the game and restart.”. But every time we do, the message repeats.

This message indicates that the next set of content is attempting to download to your computer. Depending on Internet traffic and your connection, the download can take some time.
  • Check your internet connection to make sure it’s working.
  • Some internet connections are slower than others depending on traffic – make sure you connection is at least a DSL or cable and you’ve waited at least 30 minutes.
  • Make sure you have restarted the game at least 3 times.
  • If none of these resolve your problem, please contact us via the Help form.
  • How does my child earn Super Gems?

Your child needs to complete the entire learning unit (checkmarks on all lessons) in order to earn a Super Gem. If you have already earned the Super Gem, to move on to the next unit of learning, your child will need to complete all the missions in an Adventure Pack as well as the learning games in the unit.

How does my child trade in Super Gems for items online?

Your child can access the Super Gem Online store by clicking through from the mailbox at the cabins within JumpStart World. Once in the Super Gem Reward store, your child can redeem printable certificates that you have created for them. In order to enable your child to access the online Super Gem Reward store, you need to check the box in the Parent Center that says ”allow my child direct access to the Internet” under the Holiday Celebrations tab in order for them to have access. Then just click on the mailbox and your child will be launched to the Super Gem Reward Store. Remember to make printable rewards for your child online from the Members’ Website!

My child wants to play the game on another computer.

You cannot transfer your saved game to another machine, so it’s better to play on the machine you registered with. If you have two children registered, the game can be loaded on two machines provided each child always plays on the same machine.

How do I know which lessons my child is having difficulty with?

The progress report tab in the Parent Center shows the current percentage for each lesson. A lesson is mastered at 80% or higher.

How does my child know how many rounds to complete in a learning game in order to master the lesson?

JumpStart World uses Adaptive Learning Technology, which determines if the child needs more exposure to questions to ensure mastery of a particular skill. The number of rounds a child needs to complete to master a lesson is unique to every child. If a child is answering the questions correctly, mastery is awarded after the minimum number of questions. (Usually between 5 – 10). If a child is answering the questions incorrectly, more questions are given for more practice.

Why can’t my child advance to the next Adventure Unit - we completed all the learning games in the Unit?

    Some things to check:

  • Make sure there are checkmarks on each learning game lesson (icon) and the super gem is complete. To check this, click on the Treasure Tracker button in the upper right corner of the screen. If any of the lessons do not have a check mark next to them, your child has not successfully mastered the Unit.
  • Make sure you have completed all the missions for the Adventure Pack that you are on. To check this, click on the JumpStart Communicator in the lower right corner of the screen. If there are any steps left to complete, be sure to complete them by following the directions.
  • If you are a trial user, you will get Unit 1 of learning games only. To receive other units, you must subscribe.
